We started the farm with a few seedlings in 1985. I've learned much about growing trees since then and made plenty of mistakes. Safe to say it's harder than it looks. Weather problems, insects, disease can quickly set you back years. It takes successful navigation of the many variables and a great deal of work to produce marketable trees.
We're located near Rifton, rural Town of Esopus, close to Kingston, Port Ewen, New Paltz and Poughkeepsie. About eight miles from Kingston or New Paltz.. Fifteen miles from the Mid-Hudson Bridge. The farm is 30+ total acres. About five acres in Christmas trees.
We're fortunate to have very loyal guests. Our reward - Excited, smiling families returning year after year. We're honored to be part of the many celebrations and generations of memories.
"How long does it take to grow a Christmas tree?
The typical seven to eight foot tree is twelve years old. Variables of weather, species, seed source/genetics determine the number of marketable trees during the growing period.
"Which type of tree is best"?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The best tree for you is always a compromise - tree shape, needle retention, branch strength .... Stop by the farm, we've had excellent results matching families with "the best tree ever".
